Ruhrgas Industries Acquires ABB’s Global Metering Division

We are pleased to announce that the sale of ABB’s global water and electricity metering businesses to Ruhrgas Industries has now been completed, following approval from the appropriate regulatory authorities.  In New Zealand you know this as Kent Water Meters.

The new group will be called Elster Metering and the company will be called Elster Metering Limited. 

The Ruhrgas Group, the German gas distribution company, has revenues of Euro 13.3 billion (around US$ 12 billion) and over 9,000 employees.  Ruhrgas Industries (“RI”) is the management holding for the global industrial affiliates of the Ruhrgas Group and concentrates on two fields of business: gas measurement and control, and industrial furnaces.  Through its subsidiaries American Meter Company (Americas), Elster (Europe and Asia), Kromschroder (Europe), and Instromet, RI is a world leader in gas metering and revenues of Euro 638 million (around US$ 580 million).

The new group, Elster Metering, is a market leader in water and electricity metering with some 3,500 employees working in 33 production operations and sales offices in 32 countries.  Together with the RI gas metering businesses, it will become part of a global metering group with global revenues of over US$1 billion. 

Elster Metering Limited will transact business under this legal entity and therefore all contracts transacted as ABB Metering Limited will be taken over by the new legal entity and honoured in full. 

In New Zealand, the change will not affect the personnel with whom you presently have contact, but will facilitate improved customer service dedicated to metering.
